Baotou Teachers' College is located in the city of Baotou, in the north of China, known as a city of Rare Earth and a beautiful steel city in the grassland and the National Civilized City. Baotou Teachers’ College was founded in 1958 and was reånamed in 1996. Approved by the Ministry of Education, the former Baotou Institute of Education (founded in 1978), Baotou Normal College (founded in 1947) and BaotouTeachers’ College amalgamated as Baotou Teachers’ College in 2000. In 2003, Baotou Teachers’ College and the former Baotou Iron and Steel College and Baotou Medical College merged into Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology. In 2004, Baotou Teachers’ College was renamed Baotou Teachers’ College of Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology by Inner Mongolia People’s Governmentand became a full-time undergraduate Teachers’ College with the qualification of independent legal person. The 60-anniversary celebration of Baotou Teachers’ College was held grandly in 2008. With the purpose of adhering to the local economic and social development and serving for the basic education, the school has accumulated rich experience in management and has formed distinctive characteristics.
There are 17 administrations and 20 faculties, namely the Faculty of Liberal Arts, the Faculty of Economy and Management, the Faculty of Foreign Languages, the Faculty of Law and Politics, the Faculty of Fine Arts, the Faculty of Music, the Faculty of Education Science, the Faculty of History and Culture, the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences, the Faculty of Physics Science and Technology, the Faculty of Chemistry, the Faculty of Biological Science and Technology, the Faculty of Resources and Environment, the Faculty of Information Science and Technology and the Faculty of Sports Science. There are 8 auxiliary teaching departments including the library. There are 4 disciplines and 2 sub-disciplines for master’s authorization and 2 professional Mater degree Programs. There are 44 major fields of study authorized to grant bachelor's degree and 1 specialized subject. 2 National Specialties, 7 Provincial Specialties and 21 Provincial Excellent Courses are set up. At the moment, there are 13769 full time students.
In the past five years, there were 275 research projects have been approved, including 31 national projects, 145 provincial and ministerial projects, and 151 bureau level projects. In total, 16.27 million yuan was spent on scientific research. Teachers in our school have published 1769 academic papers, of which 426 Core Journal Papers were published , 126 were collected in the three major searching website, 144 academic works were published, 8 patents were applied for independent intellectual property rights, and 21 provincial and ministerial awards were won.
The college has garden campuses, covering a total area of 400 acres, and its buildings have a total area of 240,289 square meters. The fixed assets amount to 533,150,000 Yuan and the teaching and research equipment worth 70,887,700 Yuan. There is one provincial model teaching demonstration center and 9 laboratory centers and 243 practice teaching bases. The library has a collection of 758,600 copies and the electronic materials equals to 1500GB, there are 15 text abstracts and full text databases of Chinese and foreign languages. It owns Gigabit network dual core, Gigabit backbone network, fast switching to the desktop and the wired network system and the wireless network covering the whole campus, among which the network covers China Education and Research Network and the three major telecomputer operators.
The entire staff of the college numbers 934, among which 639 are full time teachers, which accounts for 68 percent of the total staff. 84 teachers have been awarded senior academic or professional rank, 273 teachers have been titled associate senior academics. 32 teachers are granted Doctor’s degree and 367 are granted Master’s degree. 2 teachers enjoy the National Government Expert Subsidy, 1 teacher is awarded the New Century Support Program Talents by the Ministry of Education, 1 teacher is awarded the first top talent by the “321 Talents Project” of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, 2 teachers are awarded the second top, 3 teachers are awarded the Master Teacher in higher institutions in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, 6 teachers are awarded the New Century Talents Project in Baotou and 25 teachers are awarded leading talents of “5512 project”.
Baotou Teachers’ College adheres to the open education, expanding exchanges and cooperation with international institutions. It has built up academic exchange with universities of USA, UK, Italy, Russia, Poland, Korea, Mongolia and Belarus and other countries or regions; Practical cooperation has been implemented with Fayetteville State University, USA and Belarus State University of the Culture and Arts by signed agreement on cooperation. Collaborative Online International Learning Programs have been carried out with East Carolina University and Fayetteville State University, USA. International cooperation has shown a good development prospects; the school is entitled to enroll international students, and has received the students from USA, Korea and other countries.
The School continues to strengthen the construction of the Party and the Party's ideological and political work, the construction of spiritual civilization, morality construction of school spirit, the construction of the style of study, the construction of campus culture and has achieved fruitful results in creating a good atmosphere for education.
